Gerald embraced spot directing via the boot camp of music-video. He started by directing and co-writing the songs and concepts for more than 20 music-videos with his pioneering new wave band DEVO. After creating DEVO's legendary, low-budget camp style he graduated into the 90's with high-profile EFX videos for groups such as The Foo Fighters, Soundgarden and Silverchair.
